Frag swap faq

how to prepare and what to expect

What is a frag swap?

Frag swaps give hobbyists the opportunity to buy, trade and sell captively grown coral to other hobbyists. The Reef Conservation Society provides the venue, speakers, a meal and an exciting raffle where we typically give away thousands of dollars worth of merchandise and livestock.

How do people transport coral?

Some people set up tanks at the swap and then bag coral as it's sold. Other people prepackage coral in deli cups for easy "grab and go" purchasing.

Do I have to trade or can I sell coral?

Most people elect to place a dollar value on coral and trade for cash. It's diffcult sometimes to find someone who wants to make a direct swap.

Can you guarantee I'll sell all the coral I bring?

You're likely to find someone who is willing to trade for coral or buy an item at a reduced price toward the end of the swap. We cannot guarantee you'll sell all of your coral. Some people donate leftover frags to our Tanks in Schools program (see Larry Flint at the swap).

What is Fragswapper?

Fragswapper.com is a web site where you can prearrange trades for the frag swap. Simply register for an event on the site and then browse the available items. Feel free to list an item on the site for sale.

Will food be served at the swap?

You bet. Your swap admission includes lunch.

How does the raffle work?

Manufacturers, hobbyists and stores donate product for our raffles. You buy $1 raffle tickets for smaller items and $5 tickets for more valuable items. Walk away with frags, product samples, pumps and even brand new aquariums.
